Networking, Information Sharing, and Bridge Building

Network building values the creation of mutually supporting relationships among residents and between residents and community institutions. Through these neighborhood-based connections and collective community investment, residents and community organizations can work together to demonstrate effective decision-making, productive civic engagement, and sustainable development.

SOMCAN works to act as a resource center and link between residents, other community organizations and service providers. Simultaneously we work with residents to build their leadership capacity to empower additional family and community members to access these services and to think systemically of the issues that affect the neighborhood, region, and world. The relationships that SOMCAN has begun to build with community residents, local government and key stakeholders over the past four years position us to be a credible resource for community building and leadership development in the South of Market and beyond.

SOMCAN’s Community Partners include: SF Foundation Koshland Program, Center for Third World Organizing, District 6 Supervisor Chris Daly's Office, FADF, Manilatown Heritage Foundation, Mint Mall Organizing Committee, Mission Anti-Displacement Coalition, Neighborhood Safety Program, New Bessie Carmichael Committee, Oasis, Senior Action Network, Senior Power, Sixth Street Agenda, SoMa Anti-Displacement Coalition, SoMa Childcare Center, SoMa Employment Center, SoMa Leadership Council, SOYAC, TODCO, United Pilipino Organizing Network, Veterans Equity Center, Yerba Buena Childcare Center, United SoMa Residents Organizing (USRO), Trinity Plaza Tenants Association, POWER , Community Tenants Association, SRO Families United, Chinese Progressive Association, Department of Public Health, Right 2 a Roof, Urban Solutions, Asian Neighborhood Design, PODER, Youth Media Council, National Alliance for Filipino Concerns, West Bay Filipino Center /SOMA Teen Center .
