Helping SOMCAN provide education, outreach and opportunity to the SoMa community.
We believe that grassroots fundraising is central to our long-term vision for achieving social change.
Every donation helps at SOMCAN. Here are some examples of how donations are put to use:
- Making a tax-deductible gift to SOMCAN of $5,000 makes it possible for SOMCAN to provide 5 internships for SoMa residents who graduate from our Resident Leadership and Organizing Program. Interns work with local community organizations over a 3-4 month period to further develop their leadership and organizing skills.
- $2,500 supports the cost of permit fees needed to produce our annual SoMa Fest. This event brings SoMa youth, children and their families together to celebrate the culture and community of the South of Market neighborhood.
- $1,000 supports childcare for our Resident Leadership and Organizing Program.
- $100 provides translation for a month of our Resident Leadership and Organizing Program. Thirty-three percent of the residents that SOMCAN works with speak little or no English— translation is essential to provide for our programs.
- $50 supports the cost of providing a "Know Your Rights! Workshop" to community members.
You may also make an in-kind donation:
- Organize an event to benefit SOMCAN
- Work with your employer to have your gift matched
- Work with your company to provide printing for SOMCAN materials
- Donate office supplies, equipment or computer technology
